Child-centred approach to behaviour strategies

Hi there, I understand the need for a child centred approach generally but I cannot seem to put into words why this is important in behaviour management and creating strategies. I am pulling my hair out, its like I know the answer but cant say it!!! argh!
Any help would be much appreciated.
