Default When and why share childrens names and other information?

Hi, I have to answer a question about 'sharing information', the question is: "Why do you need to pass information such as a child's name and address?"

I have written that it may need to be shared with other proffesionalls such as: doctors, speech and language therpaists, social services and the police but only for child protection reasons ....... is this right?

Thanks x

I don't know the context of your question, but I never give out any information unless I have spoken to a parent.

I explain to them when their child first starts at our setting that we work with other professionals (for the good of their child) and they sign a contract to this effect; however if I then felt I needed outside help from another professional I would speak to them - almost asking for their permission again (in a way).
I always keep parents involved and informed when dealing with other professionals unless I am worried or suspected that a child may be being abused by a parent.
If I was dealing with a speech therapist or health visitor there would be no need to give them a child's address ( they probably already know it), as most professionals will meet the parent, if they need it they can ask them.
If a professional asked me for an address, i would inform them I would have to obtain the permission of the parent or ask the parent to get in touch with the professional. I would only share relevant information.

For the benefit of your written work as long as you explain when and why you would share information your assessor will see you understand what you do in your setting. Look at your setting's policies and procedures as our policies and procedures may differ.

Thank you heidi, the question was in a table that has 2 colums saying 'piece of information- child's name and address' and 'why/when to pass it on'. My assesor just told me to fill in the table x

It doesn't mean you have to though does it?
They might be seeing if you would or would not.
On sensitive things, I'd always err on the side or caution.
So, you may make an exception for Child protection reasons, but you certainly wouldn't for a speech therapist. Recently I had a professional visit and she wanted something and she willingly waited whilst I rang the parent up. She understood and agreed the procedure I followed.

might be worth looking at the CWDC induction guidelines which we are all supposed to be using! for the first one that is and re sharing info you NEVER DO of any sort with anyone UNLESS the child is considered to be at risk OR you have the parents permission.
