Hi, a warm welcome to the site. Supporting and promoting opportunities for children's independance builds confidence & self esteem which enables an ability to self regulate, tend own care needs and at a time unique to a child have consideration of others & their care needs, provide for self, self elect own participation / exclusion and explore decision making skills which assists a provisions aim in providing environments where children can be central and active in following their own interests, learning & development.

Toileting, door knocking, dressing, food serving, drink pouring, washing, tooth & hair care, blowing noses, open communication - waiting & listening, hearing & understanding, acting on information, have an understanding of separation and return, access means of expression, language and literacy, exploring with purpose & in general, moving freely around a room/area, telephone answering, pet care, participating in activities that reassure and challenge, know what resources can be selected and how, know adults have positive welcoming attitudes, conflict resolution skills and can be approached any time.

This page from Cumbria's Armathwaite primary school is a good read - child initiated independant learning
