Hiya,

Unit 323 - Use Information and Communication Technology to support children’s early learning.

Sounds interesting ICT is any item that has an input / output function - ie: you can enter in or give information to a piece of equipment by communicating with it through the use of technology.

A kettle uses technology to perform an automated process that results in the boiling of water. At the moment an every day kettle needs us to interact with it by filling, giving a command - pressing the on button so that the process can begin. This applies to many toys and resources that the Children have access to - eg: electronic toy

Washing machines, dryers, kettles, cookers, microwaves, cd players, tape recorders, dvd players, game consoles, keyboards, tills, card and bar code readers, faxes, phones, headphones, microphones, powered toys, calculators, microscopes, telescopes, food mixers, blenders, fridge, freezer, tv, alarms, clocks, keyboards, remote control toys, console games, ipods, mp3 players, answer machine, photocopier, video camera, car park/bus/train/ ticket & vending machines, traffic lights, automatic doors, lifts, wheelchairs, hearing aids, lights, switches, plugs, speakers ..

To help with computers can you ask what policies and procedures your new job has in place that relate to ICT / computers?

See what equipment they have - laptops, towers, printers, whiteboards, scanners, digital camera's, memory sticks and the software they use - for drawing, games, written /mark making documents, accessing safe sites and performing safe searches online. If you know your way around the ict suite/area it will be much easier for you to support the Children.

Some good links - www.kented.org.uk/ngfl/earlyict

Nothern Grid page that looks at older pupil & teacher benefits: Using ICT to support learning

Physical development & fine motor skills, hand & eye coordination. Safe posture when sat at a computer.

This is a very informative pdf from Datec - Children using ICT

Hope this helps to start, best wishes with it

xx
