Hi, you could maybe use your knowledge of child development to adapt the complexity of language - verbal and body ie. the way you'd communicate and use eye contact with a 6 month old baby would differ to the facila expression, words, tone, pitch and rhythm that you might use when talking ordinarily with a toddler or with a five year old or an 8 year old..
You might lower yourself bodily to meet the eye level of a young child or stand if in conversation with an older child.
The resources you provide can relate to a child's age and stage of development eg. books and their ratio of text, text size and images, board books, soft books, plastic waterproof books, paper & hardback, press button books, audio.
Barriers present difficulties that need overcoming where english is a not a first language, communication would be considered quite carefully so that english is learnt effectively -

Professional reflection also ensures communication is suitable - did children understand what was being said or gestured, were everyone's words spoken slowly or fast enough, what words or body language were used ..
