Hi Tracy, welcome to Silkysteps
I've moved your post to its own thread so everyone can pop by.
Room plans can be fun .. looking from above down onto the room, draw squares, rectangles, circles to represent where play equipment is usually placed.
Mark out where doors, toilet areas, sinks, hallways and cupboard spaces are. Note fire escapes, where fire alarms, extinguishers etc are located ..
Using the plan and any experience of the room, see how the set up works in practice. Is it too crowded for Children and staff. Is there any problem getting around. Would wheelchair users find it difficult to access resources or are there large areas of unused space ..
You could also look at what items are placed where and if they compliment each other or cause problems ..
Is there a broad selection of play items available that interest and engage the Children, Sand / water / paint, role play, home corner, books, jigsaws, Games, Cars, Dolls House, construction toys, computer / ICT ...

An outdoor play area can be put to paper in the same way - although I'm not certain how stringent guidelines are for equipment scale, measurements, dimensions sorry.
Do you work within a setting that you can use to base the plan on ?
