Hi, assessing infection involves identifying what the infection is or is likely to be and then recognising how you need to deal with it so that spreading is prevented and others are less at risk - calling an ambulance, parents, doctor, assisting an unwell child and cleaning up.

Your setting will have a list of illnesses, reporting and hygiene procedures to reduce the risk of cross infection. This will involve hand washing, warm water and soap, having paper tissues and ways to throw them away/flush them so that noone else has to come into contact with them. You will be expected to wear protective clothing - gloves, aprons, shoe covers when dealing with contamination and times such as nappy changing and vomiting.
There will also be situations where the setting recommends children stay home until they are well enough to return.
