Hi, a question on Task D on my NVQ level3 says "analyse the importance of early identification of the potential risks of late recognition to speech and communication delays and disorders" Not attempting to be terribly thick, but what on earth does that mean exactly?? HELP

Maybe this will give you a start & you could add more....

Diagnosing problems in speech, language or communication is important to a child’s development as it could affect their overall behaviour at school or home. If the problem is picked up early enough then teachers, TA’s (teaching assistants) or Senco’s can intervene. It could affect early school life as a child may not be able to socialise or make friends for fear that they will be bullied or ostracised by other children. As a child grows older late diagnosis could affect their academic abilities as well as feeling like a social outcast. A hearing impairment or speech impediment may make it hard for a person to communicate; therefore it is crucial that other forms of communication are established i.e. sign language. If interventions and help are set in place early enough then the person will receive the correct guidance and support. This allows agencies or the people involved to ensure the child/young person is reaching their developmental targets and promote positive results for their language and communication.

Default 023 Task D

Yes Ive just done this one. I havnt had it marked yet, but this is what I said.

The sooner a problem is spotted, then the sooner something can be done about it. If there is a physical reason for the delay, then this can hopefully be put right quickly because time is of the essence during a child’s early years of development. If it is suspected that a child is having a language development issue, then it is better to get the child assessed by professionals rather than wait to see if things improve. These trained people can identify where the problems are, and set a work program to help the child reach their full potential.

Just write something about acting as soon as you suspect a problem, because delay will only cause more problems.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
