The Centre's funding from the Skills Funding Agency was cut by more than 80% following the introduction of a Minimum Contract Value in December 2010. For 2011/12 the Centre has received an allocation of £44,000 from the Agency where previously it held a number of Train to Gain and European Social Fund contracts to the total value of £250,000 p.a. Prior to the MCV the Centre was offering a range of education and training support to lower-skilled workers and people who were unemployed. While the Centre does not intend to stop any of its service delivery it will only be able to support a limited number of beneficiaries in the face of substantial on-going demand, particularly in respect of its response to redundancy programme. With such a significant cut in funding the Centre will be forced to consider making staff redundant for the first time in its 30 year history. The likelihood is that at least one member of the Centre's training team complement of 4 people will be made redundant by December 2011.A further impact of the cut is that the Centre management have had to invest significant time and resource in securing a partnership agreement with a larger provider in order to be able to utilise its allocation for 2011/12. Despite a recommended maximum of 15% the lowest figure quoted as a management fee for such an arrangement has been 20% of the Centre's allocation, further reducing the level of actual funding available to support learners and unemployed beneficiaries to around £36,000.
