We have 5 volunteers on the committe who all work full time. We give up our time during the week and weekends and our holidays to help out. We often work from home, producing minutes and admin tasks, sell raffle tickets, take bookings to name a few. We host, organise and plan and man events. They want us to be run as a business, but where not business types. The centre struggles during the day, our caretaker is the one that opens up the venue for the mother and toddler and any other user group, keeping the venue warm and clean. She also locks up when we are not available. 'For us the caretaker/cleaner is a valuable asset. However DCC has sent out redundancy letters to all cleaner/caretakers not realising that some centres have full time staff and some dont. The caretaker is the cornerstone of our very existance. We are the volunteers, but we need help too. No venue, nowhere for activities to be co-ordinated. A consultation period is now underway, but we think it should've been done the other way around. £236.000 is the possible overall savings, however the damage will be far greater. Once more people become redundant they will rely on there community more not less. They seem to be working against David Camerons Big Society dream. They are hiding behind the funding stream being from Adult Learning, however we cater for a far wider group - craddle to grave socially inclusive activities. They do not all have an adult learning theme or outcome. HELP US SAVE OUR CLEANER.......................!!!!!!!!
