what about how they themselves grow from baby to grandparent, you could invite different age groups into the setting, eg a baby a parent and the grandparents.
you could compare the childrens heights, compare different looks eg hair colour, eye colour etc, perhaps make a me cube of how they have grown since they were born using photos from home, sticking them on each side of the cube along with pictures of their favourite things we used pg tips tea boxes for this.
parents loved it and they were involved in providing the photos from home.

We have just started some seeds in the garden and some grass heads inside - we are seeing which will grow the fastest

hi there - im not sure if a topic is appropriate for 2/3 year olds - i would ask the question would the children understand this in its entirity. For example if the topic ran through the nursery and say it was autum then pre-school age would have some understanding but we may be looking at very simple elements for the younger end - such as - what is a leaf. What i mean is lots of experiences should be provided and be more focused on development rather than a topic. Just take some time to reflect on this and think about the level of development and understanding of a 2 yr old.

What about....

Acorn-seedling-sapling-tree
spawn-tadpole-froglet-frog

Obviously you'd have to use pictures (definately for the acorn, lol), but it could work.

Let us know what you end up doing.

Our early nursery class are hatching chicks from eggs. They have a small table top incubator and the kids are so excited. There ages are 3-4 year olds.
