Default Level 4 or foundation degree?

I was told the other day by one of our staff's assessor (she's doing the foundation degree) that it was a waste of time me doing my level 4 (which I started in last July and really enjoying) and should have only bothered with the foundation degree, as the L4 won't be recognised as such (not sure who by, she didn't say). Has anyone else heard of such a thing?

Hi, I've read a similar argument on another forum.

It took the position that the foundation degree is a requirement/consideration if continuing on to take EYPS - Early Years Professional Status.

CCLD NVQs are qualifications needed for such a diverse range of career options I can't see them becoming any less recognised ... ermm *does/doesn't hold breath lol

I do think alot of ideas come from different circles so shouldn't worry too much about other suggestions .. good to hear you're enjoying it

CCLD NVQ L4 from Barnet.ac.uk & FD information

Ok thanks Ruthie. I did wonder if the L4 was such a non-starter why would it be so well funded?!! For me personally, it was ideal because working in a children's centre L3 is the minimum for all staff, but I didn't fancy the long haul of a F degree.

We've a few members here who are doing thier FD and loving it so I guess it's a very personal decision as well

Continuing on with NVQ L5 & 6 equate (please correct me if I'm wrong) to a degree in the long course, so access to EYPS shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not sure how available these levels are though , haven't had anyone mention them yet !!

Are you attending college for tuition days ?

Ruth

They may equate but i was told that it HAD to be degree to do eyps, so depends on where you see your career path as to if you do NVQ or degree.

I am doing my foundation degree and am loving it but your level 4 will still be recognised they are only asking for everyone to be qualified up to level 3.
Enjoy your level 4 the foundation degree is a long haul but very enjoyable

Government targets for early years
The Government recognises that access to high quality childcare is important for all parents and their children. The move to a graduate-led profession represents a transformation of the early years workforce.
To drive this transformation, the Government have made it clear that their aim is to have an Early Years Professional (EYP) in every full day care setting by 2015 and one in every children's centre by 2010.

Government targets for early years

We are sessional care I was told what you have been told, by an ofsted inspector she said one of our playgroup staff would need a degree and eyps by 2010 I emailed the childrens workforce development council as we were concerned, as I have nvq4 and the manager has nvq3 did we need a degree or to employ someone with a degree? the answer was no this only applies to full day care settings. Wether it will then roll out to affect sessional settings at a later date I dont know, things constantly change as you know.
