Outcome 1 expects you to .. Understand the welfare requirements of the relevant early years framework - this depends where you work in the UK/which home nation - check for your nation's welfare requirements here


1.1 Explain the welfare requirements and guidance of the relevant early years framework please see links above

Explain the lines of reporting and responsibility within the work setting - this is unique to a setting eg. Setting owner - setting manager - safeguarding officer - additional support officer - first aiders - chef - caretaker - key person system

Relevant early years framework is the framework used within the relevant UK Home Country - either
 England,

 Northern Ireland,

Scotland or Wales


Outcome 2 expects you to .. Be able to keep early years children safe in the work setting




2.1 Demonstrate safe supervision of children whilst allowing the child to explore and manage risk and
       challenge - eg. research about appropriate intervention, adulteration, sustained shared thinking, structured support for extending exploration and the opportunities for children to discover, caution against being risk averse and overly fearful
Strategies could include: extending a hand - offer help before stepping in - raise awareness of the challenge ahead by sharing information about it - 'that looks like a big jump, how high would someone need to leap?' 'The rain has made this path slippy, how safe or dangerous do you think it is'?


2.2 Explain systems for supporting children’s safety when
  receiving children into the setting
  ensuring their safety on departure
  during off site visits
2.3 Demonstrate and evaluate how the environment both inside and outside and equipment and
       materials are checked and used to ensure safety     
2.4 Explain, giving examples, why minimum requirements for
  space - this will be in the welfare/care standards of your home nation's documents
  staff ratios  - this will be in the welfare/care standards of your home nation's documents
are necessary for children’s safety

Outcome 3 expects you to ..  Understand the importance of promoting positive health and well being for early years children

3.1 Explain how to promote children’s health and well being in an early years work setting
3.2 Describe the roles of key health professionals and sources of professional advice in promoting
      positive health and well being for early years children and their families and carers

4.3 Explain how to prepare and store food, formula and breast milk safely according to health and
      safety guidelines

Demonstrate how to support children’s personal care routines, showing respect to the child

6.2 Explain the regulations concerning management of medicines and how these are interpreted in
       the work setting
6.3 Explain how to protect themselves when lifting and handling children and equipment in the work
      setting
Support children’s personal care routines may include:
  Care of skin, hair, teeth allowing for differences based on carer’s choice, ethnicity and
                          culture.
  Sun awareness
  Care of nappy area
  Dressing and undressing
  Toileting
  Supporting independence and self care
  Encouraging and modelling good personal hygiene with children
  Engaging with the child during care routines to support learning and development
                          within the responsibilities of your role within the setting

yellow star   Look at a setting's parent parnerships to see how you share information about each individual child's care, this is a way you can work together and show respect for a family's culture and/or lifestyle
eg. Vegan parents may want cruelty free skin products to be used.
Conservation aware parents may want cloth nappies to be used in contrast to disposable nappies
Children with afro hair, cradle cap or eczema may need specific products used on their skin and hair.
