Hi there are a few threads for this unit and quite a lot of information to take on xx. The unit itself is also known as HSC3045 CYPOP41 & CU1571. If you use keywords from the assessment criteria to search they will be found for you.

Outcome 1
Legislation, frameworks, codes of practice and policies relating to positive behaviour support
In England EYFS is one framework registered care providers implement as a requirement of operation
CAF common assessment framework is a way of identifying needs that might be highlighted through behaviour
SEN code of practice
UNCRC
Equality act 2010 protects individuals from discrimination
Data protection act - confidentiality & appropriate information sharing
Freedom of information act - parents right to access a their/child's personal records.
Policies & procedures for..
--- Multi-agency working?
--- Safeguarding?
--- H&S Risk assessment?
--- Dealing with unacceptable behaviour, restraint, use of least restrictive principle?

Restrive interventions
Why use the least restrictive intervention - principle, rights, wellbeing
Informing parents, colleague, behavioural support team

Safeguards to be in place
Intervention examples

Outcome 3 - you may find outcomes 3-6 are observed or discussed in the workplace with your tutor/assessor
Be able to promote positive behaviour
Understand how behaviour is individual, involves factors, experiences, triggers
Be active in supporting children to manage their own behaviour as much as is appropriate
Understand the use of sanctions, reward and consequences
Be objective, independant, unbiased and non-judgemental to help negotiation & conflict/behavioural resolution

Outcome 5
Thread for who needs to be informed
Types of challenging behaviour are listed in the CWDC unit

Outcome 6
Be able to review and revise approaches to promoting positive behaviour
Behaviour is linked to factors that change demonstrating the need for flexible practice that ensures it continually adapts to meet the need of the child and their family.
ABC chart thread
Evaluating the environment
Identifying triggers

The NOS national occupational standards that this unit links to are excellent reading when you look through the expectations for professional performance/working practice:
HSC 326 Contribute to the Prevention and Management of Challenging Behaviour in Young People

HSC 337 Provide a framework to help individuals to manage challenging behaviour

HSC 398 Contribute to assessing the needs of individuals for therapeutic programmes to enable them to manage their behaviour

Theorists and theory for behaviour & needs include ..
Alburt Bandura - social learning theory
BF Skinner - operant conditioning, positive reinforcement rats & pigeons
Abraham Maslow's heirachy of needs
John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth attachment theory

Level 3 handbooks for units CYP 3.5 positive relationships, CYP 3.1 Understand child development CYP 3.2 support child development + positive behaviour
Understanding Behaviour in the Early Years by Kay Mathieson

There are some nice quotes at the beginning of this rcpsych document - Challenging behaviour which focusses on adults that are more vulnerable to experiencing restrictive interventions - includes a definition for challenging behaviour on pg 10

Hi welcome to the silkysteps.

You'll need a copy of your settings behavioural policy & procedures to help support your response to this criteria.

If you're in England you can quote EYFS 2012. Page 23 details guidance for managing behaviour - Eduation.gov.uk

Researching the 'least restrictive principle is good for underpinning practice.

Hth, enjoy the site xx

Hi I am doing a Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools course (level 3) home study course. I have completed all the units and evidence, the only thing I have left is one of my assignments which I am now stuck on. The question i'm confused by is

'Discuss 3 strategies that you could adopt to help manage challenging behaviour'

Are they after something specific?

Please please please help, the end is so near now I just want to get it done!
