Sun cream?

What's your policy on this, invasion of privacy or common sense cover up?

Does everyone provide their own for emergencies & seek parental permission to apply?

and have you ever found yourself in a position to stay indoors because a child wasn't protected?

we have a form for parents to sign and they provide their own suncream which is labelled, staff apply the suncream to each child wearing gloves.
this has never been a problem and parents and children are happy.

On a recent childprotection course (a week ago!) we were told we were on no account to put sun cream on.The child could be encouraged themselves or they could get a friend to put it on! :muted:

we are always todl that we are not allowed to put it on,

but could we not be thier "friend"???

Chloe what was the reason for this, did they give a reason why you couldnt apply the cream.
We are permitted to change nappies and wet children, sun cream is surely not a problem, we contacted ofsted and they said as long as we had permission signed by the parent it was fine and each child had their own bottle of cream labelled with name.
what would happen if we had a child with a skin complaint that needed special cream applied would that be a issue I wonder.

I raised a query on this subject on under 5's before.
Figured out from replies it would be acceptable to put suncream onto children as long as parents sign something to say it's ok (and the type you use is ok).
It's all very well putting children's own on but that means new pair of gloves or washing hands between each application - very time consuming!

We have just been on a local ofsted updates course and we were told its fine to adminsiter suncream as long as we have a policy in place and a form for parents to sign giving permission.
Some settings at the meeting had just been inspected by ofsted and this procedure was approved.
It seems different people in early years have varying ideas on this, it is quite confusing no consistancy.
