This year's theme is Yuletide moons and how many sleeps until Santa visits.
Please have fun with it and enjoy your winter's solstice - the shortest day and longest night of the year  21.12.2012 - download How many sleeps till Santa

Use the 3 activity suggestions found in the download to explore paint and mark making, a printable countdown and the moon's lunar phases. Interact physically with the night sky by holding up a hand and matching the moon's outer-line to either your right hand or left hand's thumb to forefinger curve.

In the northern hemisphere, a left hand outline/curve and the moon is waning, a right hand outline/curve and it is waxing. A waning moon is reducing in visibility and is on its way to becoming a new moon. A waxing moon grows in visibility, becoming a full moon at its next whole.
Paint mark making to support creativity, communication and learning
black,white and grey mark making

Introduce the moon, named shapes, opposites and discover how children are mapping their numbered countdowns to the night when Santa arrives. Use circular and crescent shaped items to take prints from eg. cup rims, lids, cutters, stampers ..  and by the use of your hands show how it's possible to interact with the moon and identify cycle stages that make forecasts possible.
