 brown Pop to a local fruit & vegetable shop at seasonal times to check on stock.  
 brown Collect them fresh from correctly identified chestnut trees.
 brown Purchase fresh, cooked, canned, pureed online - cooked chestnuts on amazon

Large chestnut     What to do with them ..
 brown Chestnuts are great cooked, roasted, peeled and eaten warm.. dipped or drizzled with sauce.
 brown Experiment to see which you prefer.

       brown Score the top of each chestnuts with a sharp knife before cooking.
          This helps to prevent against possible explosions.
       brown Boil the chestnuts for 10 minutes.
          Parboiling ensures the chestnuts are soft and evenly cooked inside.
       brown Roast on a suitable tray at 180c / 375f / Gas mk  2 - preheated oven
           for 15 - 20 minutes.
       brown Leave to cool, place and wrap in a towel to keep them warm. 
           Chestnuts peel with less effort when warm, peel all outer skin before eating.
