Log locks!

Have fun with corners of your outdoors and place log slices filled with padlocks and a tub of keys waiting to unlock them! This activity is great for supporting children's fine and gross motor skills as they problem solve how and where to position the sections of tree as keys are selected, matched, inserted, turned and the locks removed. A fencepost also makes a great 'lock guardian', add character to it with a tree person face and
celebrate all unlocking success with a certficate of congratulations!

U nails or eye screws?

Choose your prefered fixings. Whilst U nails are sharp, eye screws can be more easily removed. Especially when it's discovered the lock itself can act as a lever to unscrew them!

Use a hammer to secure the U nails into the wood or a drill bit to fasten the screws in place.

Add a combination lock with a picture of someone the key-master needs to ask for the code.

Put single locks on smaller pieces of wood, housed in a basket for sorting
