 Firework night or bonfire night messy paint craft

Firework Splats
A messy, mark making activity using rice filled bombs dipped in paint, drizzled glue and sprinkled glitter. Perfect for outside, great for a prepared area inside!

In recognition of November the 5th 1605, explore bonfire night, organised firework events, staying safe and the significance of Guy Fawkes in shaping a day in England's history.

Suggested resources

blue Large, A3 sheets of black craft paper.

blue Large plastic floor sheet or large shallow tray

blue Small bowls for poster paints

blue Assortment of paint colours

blue PVA glue, application bottles and glitter shakers

Activity preparation
Firework activity - paper, paint, glue, glitter, splatts

 



 Resources for making the splats
blue fabrics
blue 1 small zip lock bag per splatt
blue 2 Tablespoons of rice
blue Cord or twine to tie
blue Scissors

Explore loose media - fill circles of fabric and watch how they respond when used as paint splatts ..


To make the splat bags
blue Fill a small zip lock bag with 2 tablespoons of rice
blue Use a bowl or other circular object and mark, then cut out a circle of fabric approximately 17cm in diameter.
blue Cut additional numbers of circles to suit needs.
blue Place the bag of rice into the centre of the fabric circle and gather the edges together.
blue Hold in place and wrap a short length of cord around the top and tie off tightly & securely.
blue Repeat the same process for as many splats as required.

PLAY, by holding the top gathered area and dipping the base into bowls of paint
blue Hold up, notice the distance and let go .....
