About snakes
Risk, health, safety, first aid:
Snake bites in the UK are rare.
The only venomous snake is the Adder - viper.
Adders are most commonly encountered in long grass
during April through to October or on sand dunes.
Snakes strike in self defense if they feel threatened,
if they are suddenly disturbed or provoked.
They are timid and with enough warning will leave
an area.
St
John Ambulance - poisoning
Enable children to protect themselves and provide
information on how to avoid bites when outdoors
-- turn stones over with a stick, lift gently
and replace.
-- play in long, deep grass that has been checked,
noise cleared.
-- not to approach or touch a snake that looks
'dead or sleeping.
