Marble rolling and paint mark making activity
An excellent way to observe children's dexterity,
hand and eye coordination is with this 2 handed, or one for the brave,
perpetually motioned mark making idea. Use outline templates to theme activities
and blank paper for children's own creative expression.
wibble, jiggle and rotate a paper lined tin and
watch as paint loaded marbles track lines across the surface. Use warm
soapy water to wash the marbles and load again with different paint colours.
Alternatively use a large, paper lined tray and drizzle paint directly
onto the paper, add the marbels to the tray and begin the tracking process
by manouvering the whole container.

Play
Plan and prepare the activity by sourcing the resources wanted.
Cut a quantity of papaer shapes to fit the bottom of your
tubs and tins and provide pencils and scissors for children to trace the
container's circumference and cut out their own shapes.
Display the paint in dishes and demonstrate how to manipulate
the spoons or tongs to grab, lift and move the ball to the paper lined
tub.
Have a bowl of soapy water and towel on hand to clean the
spent marbles and enable a fresh change of colour.
Remove finished papers from the tubs, dry and re-line to
continue the activity
Add texture to the wet paint with materials such as glue
and glitter.
Using language to explore the
activity
Open ended questions encourage talk about the activity
and help children in their thinking about what's happening, what they'd
like to happen and how they can make it so. How many colours, where will
the marble roll, what shapes will they make ..
Enjoy and have fun with your paint filled activities
