preschool dinosaur rhyme

If you were a dinosaur what would you be?
would you have horns maybe one, two or three?
would your neck stretch, and reach ever-so- high?
and would you have wings that spread out in the sky?
would your fins swish in water by sand?
or would you stomp noisily through trees on the land?
How could your skin colour help you each day,
when finding your food and hiding away?
A beak, or a snout, your tooth shape too,
all of the choices are up to you.

Use this activity rhyme to inspire children's own designs ..

Making a springy puppet using a sandwich method!

Print two of the template sheets per puppet and cut out 2 bodies and 2 heads from heavy paper.

Glue opposing sides to a sheet of green tissue paper.

Cut a number of body spike triangles and position on the inner edge of one body & one head piece.

Decide what the joining neck is to be made of - a paper plait, length of paper, concertina paper, string.

Attach each end of the neck on the same inner side as the spikes.

Add the puppetry handle by cutting a thin length of heavy card and stickytaping it to the same inner side.

Cover these 'inner side' edges by sandwiching the other dinosaur body and piece on the top.

Finish up with additional tissue paper decoration and gluing the eyes on place.

Build many dinosaurs in different colours and create a herd of Diplodocus for role play ..

Plaiting paper
To make a springy diplodocus neck cut 2 long strips of card., approximately 1cm wide
Glue the ends of both strips together at a 90 degree angle.
Plait the paper by folding each strip over onto itself, in turns.
Add an etra strip to the top and bottom of the finished pait  to help secue it to the dinosaur's head and body sections.
