Children act 1989 summary this explains the aims of the act in protecting a child and a parent's right to parent.
In the NSPCC understanding legislation in the UK it quotes the children's act 1989 as defining the term harm as " ill-treatment (including sexual abuse and non-physical forms of ill-treatment) or the impairment of health (physical or mental) or development (physical, intellectual, emotional, social or behavioural) (section 31)"

If you check policies and procedures - safeguarding policy? at your place of work it may help show how children, young people's and parents/carers rights are protected. Through appropriate ways of reporting/recording, sharing information and working in partnership.
