Under the Health and safety at work act 1974 all employees have a responsibility for the health and safety of everyone else. There is a poster displayed in the setting outlining responsibilities. There is a health and safety policy in place which is available to staff and parents which outlines the main objectives, these objectives are implemented into the everyday running of the setting – all staff are aware of health and safety and are constantly assessing the area that they are working in or the activity they are carrying out, there are also other policies in place covering – food and drink, arrival and departure, non collection of children, nappy changing, outings, administrating medicines, missing children, safeguarding and fire procedure. These policies give a clear outline to what procedures are in place and how they are followed. They also work alongside the EYFS framework which considers all aspects of children’s welfare including safeguarding, suitable persons, suitable premises and equipment. Many products which are used everyday carry the British Standards Institutions kitemark which means that they have been tested and comply with the relevant standard of safety. With all members of staff being aware of the policies and procedures in place we are working together to create a safe, happy secure environment for the children to thrive in.

Hope this helps a little. xx

hi Natalie,
this is what i wrote
In my setting the health and safety procedures are all staff and children know the fire drill and where the assembly point is, the health and safety at work act is up in the staff room wall, all teaching assistants are first aid qualified and fire wardens. My setting provides a clean and safe environment for the staff and the children to work in. If any staff member is required to clean any spillages or clean any bodily fluids up we know where the products are kept and how to dispose of it safely and also what protective clothing to wear. We know how to record any first aid incidents or accidents and a bump note is always sent home with the child, when it’s a member of staff who is hurt for example I fell over and bumped my head in the playground so I had to fill in an accident form detailing how and what first aid I was given and sign it. All equipment has the correct safety markings in place. My setting participates in any health and safety audits arranged by the LA, and also ensure the health and safety notice board is kept up to date. Health and safety inspections are carried out each term. They ensure any information received is passed on to the appropriate people. They monitor purchasing and maintenance of equipment and materials ensuring that it all complies with current health and safety standards, monitor contractors and ensuring that only competent, approved contractors are working on site. Risk assessments are carried out and reviewed on a regular basis. All staff is responsible for good house keeping, new employees are informed of all relevant health and safety information as part of the induction process. Educational visits and journeys are all risk assessed. All cleaning products and chemicals are kept in a locked cupboard. Children are taught to wash hands before eating and after using the toilet and also to throw away any tissues and wash their hands. If any child is ill which may spread to others their parents are informed and asked to collect the child as soon as possible and they are asked to keep the child off school for the appropriate length of time required so as to prevent it spreading to others.
hope this helps x

hello im doing CYP 3.3 1.4! is this on right lines

Just write up about my health and safety policy in my school going off from what information i have.

In my setting all employees have a responsibility for health and safety of everyone else. All staff are made aware and provided with training on use of handling, storage, and transportation of substances and equipment. There is health and safety poster displayed in the school and a health and safety policy handbook available in the office for all staff. All staff and children know the emergencies procedures. Ensuring all staff has information on pupils with medical conditions and take necessary percaution.

Is this enough? Need help on what to put when comparing schools act with 1974 ?
