Pumpkin is on a distinguished road
Disability Alliance Sunderland

Sunderland local authority (health & housing) department has indicated this week that our application for the year 2011/2012 has been rejected. Last year we received 30,000 from the council to support a range of charities and voluntary organisations working specifically with disabled people, their families and carers. This cut represents 75% of our income and as we have only found out 7 weeks before the end of our finanical year it is virtually impossible to raise the necessary funding to continue. We did expect a reduction to our grant in line with other services but this has come completely out of the blue.We have had to arrange an emergency management meeting to consider the implications and the general feeling is that we will have to wind up our operations and make our 1 paid member of staff redundant. This has a knock on affect for our small team of dedicated volunteers who will have no one to support them or expenses which enables them to do such a wonderful job.We manage on a shoestring to start with and we have no idea how our demise will affect the number of small organisations we support in the long term
