"Is it safe to cross?"

Using roleplay props, explore the type of situations that children could encouter when out and about near roads. Discuss what happens when a road needs crossing, how cars slow down, speed up, where pedestrians wait and does anyone help them to cross the road?

 We had great fun making stop-motion animation, with, as it turns out a less than safe driver behind the paint-dipped wheels of the car! (refresh the page to play the .gif again)

Dip small cars into ready mixed poster paint and roll them backwards and forwards to cover the whole of the wheeled surface.

Position the car on a length of paper that's been turned into a pretend role play road. Drive along and watch how the paint tracks mark out the direction and distance.
