Hi all,
hope courses are all going well!
Started my course on Thursday and just wanted to know if anyone could tell me if im on the right track for this question.

Unit 051
Outcome 1
Assessment Criteria 1: Identify the different reasons people communicate.
The different reasons people communicate are:
- To share; opinions, information, thoughts, knowledge, feelings, emotions, needs and wants.
- To socialise, build and maintain relationships to satisfy our constant need to relate to others and have them relate to us.
- To request or demand something.
- To learn, teach and educate.
- To persuade, argue and inform.
- To compliment.
- To experience.
- To soothe others.
- To gain attention.
- To conduct business
- For pleasure (film, music, art, theatre)
- For emotional intimacy and well-being
We communicate to understand and to be understood.

Communication is needed to build relationships in the first burst of communication we are building a new relationship even by just saying hi. Then we need to maintain this budding /old relationship each time we greet a carer when they come into the setting, by asking how they are? What have they done over the weekend? This help strengthen the relationship by doing this we can gain and share information with families, other professionals, children and colleagues this information we gain and share will help us in the way we work. Sometimes communication can be about gaining reassurance and acknowledgement we may praise them, give them physical reassurance or acknowledgement by eye contact or taking an interest in what they are doing. Colleagues also can give reassurance and acknowledgment to each other. We also have the need to express our needs and feelings and also are there to allow children to do the same. If not given the opportunities to express themselves children can become frustrated and isolated. Communication is also needed to share ideas and thoughts with each other.
