You know how to help children gain assertiveness, confidence and self-esteem - but will every child be the same? will you adapt your methods/practice to ensure that every child is helped in this area? such as children will have: different dispositions - what about a shy child or a sensitive child? perhaps a little more of encouragement and praise and with a sensitive child you will know (from observing) how to approach, the language you use, perhaps making sure they are not feeling the centre of attention. You will work alongside them and give them gentle encouragement - they may not want something they have achievemed mentioned at circle time, whereas as some children just love to come up to the front - just for attending. a child who is going through a transition - new to the setting, a new baby to the family, divorce, new home, adoption etc sen children or a child with a long term illness a child with behavioural problems I am sure you will treat each child individually and help them in the area of gaining assertiveness, confidence and self-esteem. You are probably already support and working cooperatively with colleagues by sharing information and observations, role modelling positive behaviour and are consistent with realistic expectations and respectful towards children so they trust the adults to feel assertive enough to put their needs and wants/views across. Reflective - by sharing information/observations (verbal and recorded ) with colleagues, evaluating and seeing what has worked , what hasn't, will it help for them or others? etc this will then go towards plannning next steps for children. You may hold staff/planning meetings, attend courses and share the information to help and support colleagues. Rather than 'just doing things' by always reflecting, always thinking, perhaps adapting/changing or seeing that you are providing best practice; but always being 'open' will ensure you continue to improve practice. |
Thank you so much for that, that has really helped me.
I was just looking to see if anyone else had asked. Last couple of bits before signing it off. Thanks again  |
