Outdoor Games - physical play. Free and structured
 
Here are some outdoor games that you can play in the park, on the beach or just in your garden. They are games that use little or no equipment.

20 questions
Badminton
Bulldog - 2 catchers who chase others, tag them while shouting Bulldog. Caught ones join catchers until everyone is caught.
Catch
Charades
Cricket
Football
Frisbee
Hide & seek
I Spy
Kite Flying
Make and float paper boats
Make and fly paper aeroplanes
Races
Rounders
Snake - 1 catcher, chases others who join behind to catch the rest forming a snake
Swing Ball
Tag
Tennis
What time is it Mr Wolf?

Adding to this list with a few more structured & free game ideas:
  • Sand pit, buckets and spades
  • Climbing frame
  • Swings
  • Slides
  • Roundabouts
  • Hopscotch
  • Skipping ropes
  • Beans game
  • Hanky tag
  • Hula hoops
  • Sit N rides, prams, shopping & other trolleys, wheelbarrows
  • Bin of balls
  • Chalkboards, chalk, pots of water and paintbrushes
  • Pop up tents, sheets, umbrellas, oversized wellies.
  • Stacking play - crates, tyres, short wooden lengths.
  • Small world movement - cars, vehicles, short wooden lengths, drainage guttering.
  • Outdoor slot/penny roll games
  • Drawstring bag of hats
  • Windmills and wind turners, billows
  • Tray of bubble pots & wands
  • Stepping stones - static & dynamic
  • Weaving games - sticks in the ground/cones or netting
  • Bucket of paper twists and nets for catching
  • Story, rhyme and follow - Bear hunt, Grand old duke of york, follow my leader

We play a game called traffic lights, so
for green the children all run about

Amber means jog on the spot or anything you say

And red means stop,
we also say bridge and the children touch their toes
:)
The children love the game and play it all the time.
