Wide Eyed Un-named!

Was reading the other day about un named work, and what happens to it.

We used to have an end of the week 'filing' system where the abandoned sheets were 'carefully & lovingly ' recycled ...

How do you all manage your forgotten master pieces....

well, for some time I used to chop them up for bookmarks, calendars and even for the children to use again in collage, ( ie cut into various small shapes, strips, etc)but you can have too much of a good thing, so yes I recycle them in the black bag.........

Is this organised or free play work we are talking about? if it is organised it is surely up to staff to ensure it is marked. if not and no one claims it ,why not put it up on a wall some child will claim it and usually someone in the group will agree or say no so and so did it.Problem solved. If not recycle it never throw away recources are scarce these dayys.

No matter HOW you discard a piece of unclaimed work, my advice is as long as you NEVER let the children see you getting rid of it. Wait until they've gone.

Imagine a child sitting there not having the courage to speak up in a group to claim a piece of work, and you turn away and place it in the waste bin or recycling bin! They would be so SAD! :weepy:

I would suggest holding onto unclaimed work for a set period of time, maybe a week, and by the time you have moved onto a new topic, they would probably have forgotten about it, and it's given them time to come to you and ask, so you can then dispose of it.

we hold up all unclaimed work at the end of the session, and it seems the same person always claims it (always unsure exactely if it is his nor not!!) if noone else shouts or cries we let him pop it by his name card
if noone claims it it is recycled

we have a going home box where everyones work goes ready for staff to give out at the end of the session, any work left un named stays in the going home box until the end of the half-term before being 'filed' in the bin!!

if there is work unclaimed where i work we ask the children if anyone would like it. (theres usually someone willing) if its not claimed then we let the children cut it up as an activity. they love this.

Ours too goes into the craft area, for cutting, sticking etc..

Children often choose this to add to it by sticking items on top of the original one
And it returns again if unnamed to be used until it can no longer...
