Silkysteps early years forum - planning ideas for play

I use this at the start of the year and each child writes their name on a star to place around the poem. It then goes on the door to our classroom.

Im sorry I dont remember where I found the poem (somewhere on the net).

My Name

My name is very special
And it belongs to me
I take it with me everywhere
But it’s nothing you can see.

I write it on a paper
Or see it in my book.
And if I want to read it,
I use my eyes and look.

I spot the first big letter,
The shape of all my name.
I look at each bit carefully,
Then I’ll know it once again.

Now I can write and read my name
I can also read much more,
That’s the thing about this reading game …
It opens up a door!
