Forest schools ?
 

Has anyone thought of opening one or a similar venture?

tips, views, experiences, games and resources that you've been part of with an outdoor facility are most welcomed

hiya. i went on a forest training course recently it was superb and highlighted to me how some very good settings already achieve much of what they recommend in more traditional settings. we have an open air nursery near us which is in the middle of town but uses the same ethos. like most things i felt we could take some aspects and implement them easily others of course would be impossible but what an eye opener. really enjoyed the course

I went on a one day 'taster' session as it something that I would like to try and impliment at our pre-shool which has no designated outdoor area......but we are near a woodland area.
I had a wonderful day and came back inspired. It something we will be looking into in more detail towards the end of this/beg of next year.

We took a group of 10 4 year olds last year to Forest School - and it was a wonderful experience for the children and nursery staff alike.:cheerful:

Amongst other things, the children learned to...
make fire, using kindling and spark makers (and then obviously toasted marshmallows etc)
used a saw to cut a slice of wood to make necklaces
hunted for willow trees and then made willow figures/hats
made clay woodland creatures

I felt I learned as much as the children as I am not a natural in the countryside!:spin:
