Business Rates

Do Childminders have to pay Business Rates on their premises?

Hi Belle

You've asked a question there !!

Firstly are you a sole tader or registered a business (childminding or other) to your premises/home?

No and I've never come across anyone who has :-)

You shouldn't have to but....

I beleive that in some areas of the UK council have rules about the number of children you care for that say if you have more than 5 then you have to pay business rates. It is worth checking with your council to see what their rules are to be sure.

If they say that you do have to pay business rates then report it immediately to the NCMA as they are trying to lobby the govt to stop this practice.
