Kind Hands Tree

Im going to do a kind hands display for the start of the new term (and my new pre school) and wondered if anyone had any ideas - we will ask the children for ideas too
So far I have

Kind Hands Are ...
For Sharing
Being Helpful
Not snatching
Not Hitting
For sitting in your lap at story time???
Am I on the right track??

We do ours rather differently, by highlighting a time when the children are kind to each other or helpful.. they draw around their own hand and help cut out and we then write on it things like today i helped tidy the toys away, or today i helped... to... (or if they can they also help to mark make on it.) and they can stick it on the tree. it can be for anything positive and behaviour changes as they want their hand on the tree.. we aim to find a reason for every child during a session, and then get them to share with parents.

If using as above ideally they should all be positive statements.. rather than include things like 'not'. Makes it harder but better to focus on positive than negative comments.

Yes I did think about that - thanks for your ideas

On a similar vein i borrowed this idea from another setting. A sharing tree- parents can share things the children have done at home (stayed dry through the night, slept in their own bed) put them on a leaf shape and stick on the tree. Strenghtens partnership with parents.

maybe do a big hand tree with the positive things you said on it and could also have:
for saying hello
for waving good bye
for playing nicely
for being friendly

then make some animals e.g catapilla bird or even apples lamenate them and if a child is seen doing one of the things on the tree get the child to pick an animal and then using a white board marker write on their name and let the child stick it on the tree then at the end of the week/day take them down and give the each child a big sticker. the writing can rub off so the animals are reusable.

you could use glue tack or little velcro squares

Thanks - It is very exciting
Finished today at my present pre school which is closing down - was glad to finish as there has been a bit of an atmosphere over the last couple of months due to my partner and I deciding on not to take on a present member of staff due to her unenthusiam lately for working with the children.
We now have the school holidays to put the finishing touches to what we hope is going to be a fantastic new setting:cheerful:

We have a "fabulous board". When a child achieves something e.g. is kind, puts a coat on by themselves for the first time, etc. they are given a "fabby". This is a star shape. Their name, date and what they did to achieve the fabby are written on it and then it is presented to the child at snacktime. They then choose where on the board they want it pinned. It stays on there for a term and is then put in the learning journey. If they do something "fabby" at home their parents can nominate them for a fabby too. The children love it and so do the parents.
