:shootings Use a garden sieve to show how to take lumps out of the soil and make a finer lighter compost ... watch out for any accidently added worms :muted:

:shootings Sand is great to sieve - add larger items into it for the children to discover as they strain previously filled bucketfuls of sand ~ this activity may be good if you are doing a treasure hunt theme and want them to uncover insects!

:shootings Pushing green playdough through a sieve makes fantastic 'grass' ~ create your own dough flooring for a field full of small world animals !

:shootings The same sort of effect can be achieved for 'Hair' have some potatoes as heads & faces and assemble a variety of sieved coloured playdough on the top ~ or for beards & moustaches !

:shootings Alternatively ~ strain hard boiled eggs through one and mix with mayonaise for sandwich filling !

:shootings Use in the water tray for syphoning into other vessels.

:shootings If you have time to pre make some jelly - add this to your water tray and let the children sieve it ~ to make goo !!

:shootings Use a tea leaf strainer for seperating glitter/tea grouts/rice and other smaller items from water or sand.

:shootings The outside of sieves can be used as impression makers in clay ~ see what the patterns resemble and paint in bright colours once dry.

:shootings For History see if any of your parents have old strainers or sieves and compare how they look to ones available today.
