In the Kitchen Sink

The Kitchen sink can provide a range of activities for Children to explore water, bubbles colour, texture, pouring techniques, space and shape.

These are a few ideas you can do if you have a free sink or a spare washing up bowl !! :cheerful:

:tropicalf Have a selection of pouring tubs for the children to experience coordination, filling and emptying techniques.
Small Pots, pans, Cups, beakers, jugs, bowls.
:tropicalf Add Stiring implements like wooden & metal spoons. Vary the sizes to see how many spoonfuls it takes to fill an eggcup or bowl! :stirthepo
:tropicalf Use a seive lined with tissue paper ~ pour the water through it and see the pigment drain through the water as well :magnify: !
:tropicalf Add bubbles and straws .. watch for children that may suck the bubbles instead of blowing :vomit: !
:tropicalf Small plastic syringes with food colouring in. Add dropfuls to the water slowly and watch as the colour spreads - use cocktail sticks or similar to make circles and ripples in the water.

:tropicalf Play Bath time with plastic dolls, hairbrshes and soap for washing their hair.
:tropicalf 'Oceans' can be a nice activity in the sink if you have a few plastic water creatures around!
:tropicalf Make and sail boats - bun / muffin cases would be good quick boat bases! ~ have blowing races to see who can reach the other side of the sink first.
:tropicalf Paintbrushes and toothbrushes can be good fun to swirl around the water and spray :wide-eyed
:tropicalf Pour in some rice & Glitter ~ look at what happens to it together. See if the children can get the rice out without getting the floating glitter on their hands !

To really help out:-
:tropicalf Let them wash the carrots, potatoes etc for dinner/snack time. Put a small nail brush into the water so that the veg skins can be cleaned!
:tropicalf Use the sink to fill up buckets with soapy water to help wash the car, bike or outdoor toys... a few sponges, cloths and scrubbing brushes can make for a soggy but fun activity.

:surfing: Don't forget a large towel to mop up with at the end :D
