Frog activities - tadpole feeding, lifecycles and frog spawn collecting ..
With Spring nearly here, toad and frog spawn begins to show up in garden ponds and larger bodies of water ... so too will the tempation to run for the jam jars and small glass bowls!
Watching wiggly tadpoles change body shape as they grow and morph is fascinating. Care during the lifecycle stages opens up children's learning to explore the responsibility of caring for others and what that involves. Wherever possible collect spawn locally, releasing the froglets back to the same environment. This will help greatly in the campaign to minimise the spead of disease. The largest concern for captive tadpoles is their welfare, cannibalism is very possible as they grow and need higher levels of protein, under feeding or relying on the contents of a clean tank for nutrition will potentially result in death. Place the tank in a shady area and fill with aged water - leave tap water to stand with pond plant for about a week before adding spawn. Check the tank position receives plenty of natural light and feed the tadpoles daily: Commercial foods, lettuce, dock leaves, bread and fish food pellets or sticks for added protein.. Change a bowl full of tank water each week and watch for any cloudiness that idicates stagnation. ------------------------ Craft activity: :shootings Mischief Mouse's craft game - Food for Frog :shootings Frog lifecyclecraft eBook - also contains a a detailed craft, activity sheet & colouring picture for each of these 5 stages of change :- :frog: The pond. :frog: Spreading Frog spawn. :frog: Tadpole's adventures. :frog: Froglet's bubbly shaker. :frog: Frog's dangly legs. :shootings Lily Pad Frogs ~ Mini Topic is an interactive resource that you can buy, download, print and make yourselves all for £2.50 !! ![]() ![]() Story book titles to focus and target areas of learning: Links are in association with silkysteps amazon affiliate account M-PSRN: 10 tiny tadpoles PSED: The teeny weeny tadpole KnUW: Growing frogs ..
