Childminding & disability ?

What are your experiences of minding and disability ?

Have you had to accomodate new home equipment to meet any standards and how helpful are the local bodies in sign posting you to relevant agencies and information ?

I personally would have to install outside access ramps to the garden & a low level front door bell. Luckily though, building regulations now state internal doors have to be wider for wheelchair access !

I mind a child registered disabled with aspergers, adhd, dyspraxia and a host of other labels..... and one of mine is registered disabled with chronic eczema - so I -

clean everything to within an inch of it's life every day
make sure house is dust free as much as poss
dispense meds (some quite scary)
replace loads of stuff that is broken
have to be really careful about trip hazards
hold my breath every day for the phone call from school - for either one of them
spend much of my life reminding aspergers boy to pick things up/put things down/stop fiddling/don't say that to xxx it causes offence/please don't break my sofa by throwing yourself on it/please don't pick at my upholstery/please put on your seat belt/please leave xxx alone to play/please use the lidded cup for hot drinks/ it's tea time in 10-9-8-7-6etc mins you can wait/if you jump on xxx he will cry/ my furniture doesn't need moving thank you/ where's your game boy? / i don't know where you left your bag / have you done your homework (usually met with peals of laughter cos he doesn't 'do' homework etc etc :banghead:
spend the rest of my life reminding eczema boy to put on some blinking cream

Good job I've got a sense of humour - expecting sainthood to follow!!
