Hi everyone.

I am considering studying for the FD after just completing my L3. I think my employer feels i am capable as they suggested it but i don't want to make a hasty decision. I have a family (i barley see my children aged 7 & 5 as i work in a nursery 9-6 everyday) and work commitments so i 'don't want to take on more than i can chew'.

How as everyone managed the hours required to study and juggle this with home life/work????

Also, could anyone provide me with some examples of the assignments that i would be required to do e.g. titles, units covered, how many words in essays etc

HI, i am doing mine via Open University. It is recommended that you need 15 hours study a week, you are given a study time table to follow and it helps to keep up to date. As far as I can tell, the assignment titles change every year, the one I am currently working on is how Piaget and Vygotsky's theories influence our everyday practice. You do need to put in the hours for reading and working though the activities given in the study topic work books so that you can successfully write your essays. I am lucky enough to have 2 teenagers and weekends and 3 afternoons a week free to study and prepare. I know time management is an issue for some of the students in my tutorial group. hope that helps x

My course like many doesn't take learners until they have one year post level3 experience. and this is for you to embed the learning you have had on the 3. FD is a HUGE leap esp in terms of rules, you don't get work returned to add to, it is full on from assignment one.

no point you seeing a title as they are very specific usually 3000 words BUT these are academic and the hardest thing is cutting them down. i have a classroom full of people who start OU then drop out and come to a college/uni, learning alone is for few people.

BUT if they committed they should be letting you go to uni during work time and supporting you in work time not always of course paid. go and talk to your local fd class, you have till next september anyway if you go to a college
