rooms in age groups

Can anyone tell me if Early years child care settings that have babies and children from the age of birth to 5 need to have different rooms for different age groups? or does it just depend on the setting? I am busy doing a essay on environments for learning and development and cannot seem to find the answer to this. thanks in advance x

Hi most settings have different rooms for different age groups! Babies in one room. If it is in a hall then most settings separate the rooms using dividers it all depends on the setting and what age group children they take.

lots of GOOD settings have mixed age groups based on vygotskys work. age based rooms are very traditional for ease but of course rarely meet the development needs of the children more the needs of lazy practitioners! if you ask your ey consultant they will point you to a good setting which uses current thinking based on research
