Foundation Degree / assessor course?? HELP!! :)
 

Assessor award - FD in Early Years - Help Please!

Hi,
I am due to start my FD in Early Years in September. But.....I am now reconsidering my options!

I hold a level 3 and work as a Deputy Manager of a nursery. I would like to assess others rather than working with the children on a daily basis. This was the idea behind doing my degree.

I have read that a lot of people have done their degree in early years but nor really been able to earn the kind of money they wanted. I want to do the deree to earn more money than I am on now ( i have 2 children and want to be able to financially support them when they are older with driving lessons, uni etc)

I have seen that there can be a great earning potential from assessing, you can also progress onto the Level 4, and also have qualified trainer status for post 16's.

So my question is really, do I go ahead and start my degree, or change my path and start the assessor course.

Which would have the most earning potential and professional development??

Any opinions, views and ideas greatfully recieved!!

a degree in ey will not in anyway earn you more money, never has never will. degrees are about stretching your personal learning and opening doors for other jobs such as teaching. assessing used to be good but now you often have a teaching qualification too as many colleges have got rid of assessors and now have assessor tutors. for this you need your A1 and a teaching qual. why not do the A1 for which you need to assess two students in any case and see how you like it. the QTLS is for lecturers who have gained their teaching qual not an assessing one. the level 4 doesnt exist anymore.
