Writing reports
 

I am in a pre-school setting. Each term i write a short progress report for parents on how their child is getting on, it is very informal as i send a 'proper' report at the end of term focusing on the six areas of learning. The problem i have is thinking of different phrases to write other than “continues to make good progress in all six areas of Learning” “I am very pleased with xxxxxxx progress” “She has formed a good relationship with xxxxxxxxxx and play really well together.“ Has anyone got a bank of general phrases they use and could let me have, this would be an enormous help, or even some phrases anyone can come up with i am brain dead trying to think.

Star, do you do a home diary type of contact with your parents?

No Ruth we don't have a home diary just lots of verbal feedback after each session. We were asked by Ofsted a few years ago to give more written feedback so thats what we do. Unfortunately i have run out of ideas as i said.

I wondered about the diaries, because sometimes I think it's as hard for parents to read the same lines again & again as it is for us to write them :blush:

I can give you a list of 'phrases' that covers the same eventuality but a home diary may put the zest & fun back into your written home communications! It can be done as frequently as your other form and I'd be more than willing to help with a basic layout that you and staff could fill in !

Also, Chloe has a lot of experience with diaries .. and Im sure will let us know what she's written before! :D

The list of phrases would be really helpful. If we decide to do diaries then i know where to come for advice. You are so kind thank you.

Well.. I began jotting down phrases then discovered others have lists that pretty much cover and can be adapted to suit everything!

I know you've read these Star but they are a great resource for everyone else :cheerful: !!!

Diaries!
 

Oh thanks for those and yes I do a diary for my thursday child that I nanny and it is beginning to get very boring always the same!but Mum loves it as she knows what the child has done,I take photos most days,my charge loves his special book,he tells me what to write and then writes his own version underneath!At the back I have put drawings etc.
Everyone is happy apart from me as feel I could be writing more!maybe its the years of doing all six areas in preschool!:rotfl:
Now my thursday child asks if we can come to my house for lunch and to have his sleep in his special room(I have lots of toys!)Mum is happy and child loves it!! and I get paid for having a lovely day!

Thank you, they will come in handy. We writie full reports once a year, complete books for the paretns throughout the year with photos, craft in etc alsongside little statememnts
during the other terms we hold parent dropin sessions where they can have a meeting for a short while with the keyworker
