Question about qualifications please!
If someone completes their NVQ3 in CCLD whilst working in a Nursery/Pre-school setting would they have to complete any additional units relating to child minding if they wanted to change to being a CM?
Thanks in advance. |
I don't know for sure but i don't think so because i know the qualification entitles you to work with children from 0-16years.

Isn't there a seperate optional unit covering CM?

in order to be a childminder whatever your qualification you have a compete a short course which is approve by the local council. some councils do this well others are a bit slapdash. you need to speak to your local early years as every council is different , this changed at new year. i have someone on mine at the moment who is a manager of a nursery! planning to change paths.

Hi Dingledel
A number of local authorities expect their new childminders, to complete the 'Understand how to set up a home based childcare service' unit in the new diploma for the children & young people's workforce, alongside initial childminding preparation training. Check this out with your County childminding team. You will find it a useful unit to add onto & update your existing NVQ - good CPD. Also, most of it will be very familiar to you and put you into the frame of working on your own and not as part of a team. |
For more information on this unit - 'Understand how to set up a home based childcare service' cypop 5 - children and young peoples optional unit 5 on Wales' care council website.
