Birch Community Association

We manage Birch Community Centre in Rusholme, one of Manchesters most deprived wards. We have been providing daily children's projects for 20 years including: morning preschool playgroup, afterschool care, parents and toddlers, parents survival and holiday care scheme. Since the advent of Sure Start all these projects have all come under this very welcome umbrella, however the Sure Start contract is terminated from the end of March due to national government spending cuts.We also provide a venue for other community groups such as the Manchester Dementia Club and for activities such as exercise, dance and study classes. The running of the building, the finances and the activities is co-ordinated by part-time staff funded by a public sector grant. We have been notified that the grant may not be available after March.
