different personal and external factors that influence children
I need to complete a table, covering the areas set out below, identifying the different personal and external factors that influence children and young people's development.
(Page 60 of this CYPW handbook - search inside for deprivation) Give ONE example of how this factor might influence child and young person development Personal factors: Health status eg. healthy or poor diet, stress, environment, genetics such as a blood disorder, asthma, poor air quality, damp living conditions, living with smokiers Disability eg. disadvantage Sensory impairment eg. light - too dark, too bright, noise level, wind and drafts, smell that distract, repel or attract (onion, garlic, biscuits & cakes, damp) Learning difficulties External factors: Poverty and deprivation eg. poor diet that can affect growth, behaviour and development. Inadequate housing that can affect health and opportunities for play. Lack of educational opportunities impact on life outcomes. Aspirations and expectations can be reduced when poverty is being experienced which lowers motivation. Family environment/background eg. stress from family unemployment, long term illness and disability. Separation, divorce, bereavement and new partners. Personal choices eg. whether to smoke or not, take drugs, drink alcohol, have intimate relationships, eating and sleeping routines. Looked after/care status eg. family breakdown, inadequate parenting, youth offending and disability are potential reasons why children may be in the care of the local authority. Lack of a stable, warm and consistent environment can cause less favourable outcomes. Strong, positive attachments with a primary carer seem to influence a child's academic achievement. Education eg. the different settings in which education happens - school and home. Opportunities to socialise, experience good education that stimulates cognitive development. Now I'm really stuck on this. I have no idea how to actually word this or how to lay it out. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? --------------------------------------- Personal factors include - health status, disability, sensory impairment, learning difficulties: Unit 22 - 022 or also known as CYP 3.1 Level 3 handbook on amazon.co.uk |

....then health....... etc etc |
Ok, I think I'm getting there, but I have no idea how the following can have an affect on development:-
Personal Choices Looked After/Care Status Education Any ideas on this would be greatfully received. |
Hi,
Looked After/Care Status - children in care have less opportunity to make positive relationships with key figures. They are more vulnerable, having already experiences the negative experience of being separated from familiar figures. This can affect their ability to relate to others and evidence attachment problems/disorder. This can lead onto communication difficultites which involve showing emotions aggresively or inappropriately causing withdrawal and isolation. Education - this is a right of every child under the UNCRC. The opportunities education provides are ways a child or young person can see will help them to achieve success and prosperity in their lives, enabling solutions to be seen for when problems arise. Parent's education and their feelings towards education impact on how a child sees it. This cultural factor affects the child's attitude to learning in particular settings, how they undertake homework and handle expectations a school places on them. Personal Choices? Choices affect development. Choosing healthy foods instead of less healthy fatty, sugary foods and drinks go towards a healthier life, help raise awareness of obesity,k physical exercise and dental decay. For older children sexual health choices and pregancy, STIs, smoking, drinking, drugs |
The CYPW text book by Tassoni is really helpful. I'm just completing this section now. pages 60-63 gives you all the information you need, to then put it in your own words.
