Play Doh?
Could someone post their recipe for play doh please? I think I have all the ingrediants in the cupboard now but just need to know what to do.
Many thanks, Chell |
Hiya, this is the basic cooked version .. I've not got the Microwave one to hand at the mo .. hopefully someone can post it here.. Basic playdough recipe 2 mugs of flour 1 mug salt 2 tablespoons Oil 2teaspoons cream of tartar 1 ½ mugs wate 1 Tsp food colouring Moisturising hand cream - helps counteract the effect of salt on skin, improves consistency & also helps lengthen storage time. Place all the ingredients into a saucepan and mix together. Cook over a medium heat until the mixture forms a dough and begins to leave the sides of the pan. Turn out onto a surface and once cooled a little knead until smooth. Add a scoop of hand moisturising cream and knead again. Cut into sections and color each one with different food dyes. Store in an airtight container. There are a few activity ideas available on Magical Mammoth's page xx |
Ooops, I just read this quickly then went off to make it. I had bought cream of tartar and noticed that I ddidn't need it for this.
I have just come back, re-read the post and realised that you had listed cream of tartar. Oh well, it seems ok, they are happily playing with it. Many thanks, Chell |
LOL :D thats all that matters !!
I think the tartar adds to the preservation of the dough by preventing the salt from crystallising ! |
Even if it doesn't last they have had good fun from it. My son is 3, he sat for two hours playing with it. Its so much more fun having a huge pile of play dough rather than a tiny shop bought pot.
Thanks again, Chell |
www.bigeyedowl.co.uk has a lovely playdough recipe with hand lotion in, leaves your hands lovely and soft!

DS got the pot of play dough out yesterday and took it through to the dining room while I got the cutters etc. Next minute he shouts, 'oops, something has happened!'. I went through to find his hands covered in red slimey gunk. I ran to get the camera before I cleaned him up. I will post the pictures of what happens if you forget the cream of tartar!
