Default Mother and Toddler Group

The group that I take my charge to is thriving but lots of children leaving in July,I will leave in June as my charges Mum wants to find someone to do two days and I dont want to!sad as I have looked after her son for two years and hes part of the family! To-day at the group they asked me if I would run it,should I?Think it should be run by the Mums but do not want the group to close. If I do take it over should I ask for payment or do it voluntary?

tough call Chloe...my understanding of toddler groups is that they are run and supported by its users...parents/carers etc of those children who attend.
if you were to take over the co-ordinating of it you could perhaps request funds towards any paperwork/phonecalls/etc that you may incur....unfortunately many groups do stop running or are poorly attended due to children growing up....what exactly would you be expected to do? Run every session?...open up?set up resources?plan activities/trips?...will you be the named contact? how will this impact on your own future work plans?...lots to consider...

I was asked to do this some 10 years ago with our toddler group which was under threat of closing..... after careful consideration, I decided it was up to the current parents to keep it going... and hey presto! 10 years later it's still going strong....

My concerns centred on - what if I get another child who doesn't want to go (minder) ? what if I get a job and have to leave anyway? it wouldn't be paid so what if I got resentful? would I really want to keep going on something that my children have grown out of? it's always the same people doing things - let the others learn! I want to support my children now - and I won't have time to do that and run the playgroup..... so I decided to look forward and am now a school governor!!

Hope this helps!
