Default I had a really bad observation need a it of support

It was my second one but for some reason I just felt a bit overwhelmed and stumbled over my words and couldn't think of what to say. The kids were playing up and not listening to me and I just felt myself wanting to press the rewind button and start again. The first observation was over with quickly but this time it just dragged and I could see at times my assessor was hardly writing anything and so I wasn't sure what she was after and just felt myself getting smaller and smaller and wondering what else to say

Hi, a warm welcome to silkysteps and hugs for the observation. Did you have the opportunity to ask for some feedback at the end of your assessor's visit or to check that you recieved the requirements of the observation so you could prepare ahead of the visit?

Try not to worry so much, it may help to take control back and rewind by looking professionally at the day to see what you felt was good and what could be better. Look at why the children weren't listening, what were they more interested in doing instead of hearing what you were saying.

What were you asking them to do and how
Were any instructions that being given too complicated or not challenging enough?
Would a puppet or you in dress up clothes make a difference!?
Was the activity one they were overly familiar with?
Had they been inside for some time or restricted in some way from whole body movement?

Maybe research some activity ideas that involves gross motor development as well as fine motor so you have a range of ideas to use.

I hope this helps, best wishes for the next time and please enjoy the site xx

I've not long had my obs, and it went well even though i thought it went bad in places, she wanted to see literacy and numeracy lesson, how i dealt with the children, whether i kept the children quiet and on the task in hand she even noticed me checking a girls mouth she complained it hurts and how i dealt with it, to be honest with you be yourself and carry on as if your assessor isn't there, hope it goes well
