Understand the scope and purpose of the sector
Young children need both education and care.
Children are not made up of separate parts; a child is a whole person. It is inappropriate to talk about either education of or caring for young children.
Instead, the term 'integrated early yars settings' is used to describe places that provide education and care for young children. Children need good physical and health care as much as they need new, interesting and stimulating experiences.

The range of early years settings reflects th scope and purpose of the sector
A statutory service is one that is provided by central government and funded from central taxation, such as the National Health Srvice (NHS). Others are provided by local government and funded by a combination of local and central taxation such as education and social service departments.
