Hi a warm welcome to silkysteps.

Page 348 of the level 2 CYPW handbook
- on amazon.co.uk explains medical model of disability as ' a traditional view of disability as a sickness, seeing the disabled person as the problem'

and the social model of disability as ' progressive model recognising that discriminating against disabled people is created by society.

Do you have handouts from your course provider that help you research the difference between the models and that enable you to see how they both impact on being included, a person's rights, autonomy & the ability to move around freely, and meeting individual person's needs?

Best wishes

Hi, if you mean you can't find anything for 'Explain how each of the models of disability impacts on the
a) inclusion
b) Rights
c) Autonomy
d) Needs of individuals

Think about your own setting and use what you've already written as a guide xx

Does your workplace have ramps to access the building, entry buzzers & intercoms at a height where wheelchair users can reach them, are activities adapted so that children's individual needs are met and their right to play, join in, be with others and express themselves happen? The social model would have all these in place.

What if the medical model were used and there were no ramps, useable toilets, wide doorways or changed activities that were suitable for children living with different disabilities?

xx
